Cara - good 1AC!
Cross-x of 1AC
Cara:
try to avoid saying "in a world that" - its inefficient and you use it throughout cx and your speeches. just use "if"
try to be less defensive in answering questions. In the line of questions about whether other countries follow, just repeat and explain your argument and don't help point out/emphasize that it doesn't say China.
Prep your answers for what the FInancial Reform does.
James
I think you continue along the line of questions for how its a win for protestors a bit too long. It is unlikely that cara will cave in to say you are right. Try to ask leading questions to bring that conclusion.
your questions don't seem to interact with your 1NC very much. Plan your questions with what concessions you may need to get links for your positions. Try to prep your first 3 questions during these 17(!) debates and talk to us about how to make them strategic
Carlos 1NC
start slower!
try to make your 1NC K tags more specific to the 1AC
I think you read too much of your alt card for the K. You may be better off breaking this off into more cards for the block.
don't use the abbreviation of the weapon in the compensation DA - its hard to flow and will be confusing for judges who haven't read our generic
hard number on the cause
you need mucho mas defense ont he case -
cx of 1nc
Cara -
eye contact with the judge.
generally good questions, but try to keep them simplier. Two part questions are hard for you to get answers to both. (two questions for carlos!!)
good job pointing out the politics link concern
Carlos
good job of spinning around her questions. excellent.
2ac Julia
make sure when you signpost 1nc case args you mention the arg
good job hard numbering
"no warrants" is not an arg - their wrong because and then mention they don't have reasons against it is a better way to get your point across
good time allocation and division beween the various args. I think you may be better off impacting each case flow and describing those as separate/unturnable there instead of repeating that on the K debate.
james 2nc
practice reading 2ncs on the computer - also tilt the ocmputer
politics link turn/link debate is oay but you dont give anyway to resolve the debate.
your allied prolif debate is pretty sloppy. Regive this 2NC to someone on dorm duty or during night speech work. Try to maximize the number of links you read and use other historical examples if you think you'll win bc of empiricism. Otherwise, you're pretty repetative. I think you should be able to extend and expand this DA in 2 minutes max - try to highlight for that.
1nr carlos
watch for stuttering/repeating args when you try to push yourself too quickly
i'm not sure your kick out of the K is sufficient,
focus less on "their authors agree" and more on what your arg means
good impact comparison of the case turn - very aggressive there which puts a lot of pressure on the 1ar - good job! it'd be better if you could read 1-2 sentence cards on each of your comparison arguments
looking back at this speech, you don't have nearly enough to cover. y'all should discuss spliting up the block to include more of the 2AC in the 1NR
on the warming debate, you should read more cards - i don't think your 1nc ev talks about bias.
you need more diversity of defensive arg son the case advantages at bare minimum. this is partly a question of 1nc, but the 1NR could expand the defensive args with more cards/reasons, too.
1ar Cara
kan credibility coverage is good bc it is quick but you may want to extend the ! while at it
1ar cards = good, but they need to be much shorter unless you think you're behind
also i'm not sure you should have focused on the U debate as much as you did, another piece of link turn ev would help resolve some of the multitude of interactions there (what is k to agenda, how plan would be percieved).
you do a good job on the alied prolif debate talking about how the case would interact with their impacts.
you stopped yourself from "in aworld that" - so the next word efficiency thing you should work on is hard numbering the 1ar to remove unnecessary transition words.
James 2nr
remove all adhoms "not enough time" or "answers insufficient" because they waste time. also strcuture your reasons why i should prefer your reasons so you'll only ay "history is in our side" once isntead of 5 times per flow.
strategically, you're in a tough spot because there isn't a lot of coverage on each of the case flows earlier. I'm not sure you have enough in roads to not have to win a huge risk of your DA. For your redo, let's try for a 4 minute 2NR and add in some other analytical indites of their advantages
on the DA, i'm worried that you do not have a strucuture response to "futenma is not enough". In lab, these discussions seem to always conclude that the link to that would be very sifficult. having not read the ev (or heard the 2ar while i'm writing this), i feel you need mucho more there to fight against this.
having said that, I also wonder if you wouldn't have been better off going for politics given this link problem persistently. You also have the terrorism impacts that are "external" from the case debate and could be some useful "tie breaker" type stuff to have going into the 2ar.
Julia 2ar
on the advantage you may want to explain your advantage (for example, the warming stuff you do exactly) and then answer his args. it'll allow you to conceptualize the adv for the judge in a way to avoid nitpicky stuff and avoid repeting yourself on stuff
you may want to do your warming impacts on the advantage instead of the DA - it'll clean up the flow some. perhaps the "turn the da" part could be ont he DA overview, but otherwise there is a ton of "ink" at the top before you even get to line by line
regardless, you do a good job of spelling out the various ways you'd deal with it - this was excellent
i think you spend too much time on the "not missle grade" material and not enough on delivery system. the perception arg seems like it could swamp back some of the first argument, but not as much about them not having a delivery mechanism
I think there should be more discussion how futenma isn't enough to cause this. :(
